HONOLULU — AlohaCare is now accepting entries for its 11th annual statewide art contest, and the winner will receive $100.
Children, ages 4-12, are invited to submit a drawing, depicting how they stay healthy.
When creating their artwork, entrants should choose from one of the following categories: Preventive health (washing hands, brushing teeth, flu shots); mental health (reading books, playing board games, doing crossword puzzles); nutrition (eating fruits and vegetables, drinking lots of water); and physical activities (swimming, dancing hula, playing kickball).
Drawings should be done in crayon, markers, colored pencils or watercolors on 8-1/2 X 11” white paper. The deadline to enter is March 1, 2013.
The contest is divided into four categories, according to age: Division 1 is ages 4-5, Division 2 is ages 6-7, Division 3 is ages 8-9 and Division 4 is ages 10-12. The first-place winner in each category will receive $100 in cash.
“Each year, we receive more than 3,000 drawings from children throughout Hawai‘i, showing how they keep healthy,” said John McComas, AlohaCare Chief Executive Officer. “At AlohaCare, three out of five of our QUEST health plan members are children.”
The goal of the contest, said McComas, is “to encourage children to think about and develop healthy habits that they will carry with them through adulthood.”
Entries should be mailed to: AlohaCare Children’s Art Contest, 1357 Kapiolani Blvd, Suite 1250, Honolulu, HI 96814. Entries must be postmarked by March 1, 2013.
