A workshop on “Change Your Posture, Change your Life” will be held 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at Common Ground, 4900 Kuawa Road, Kilauea.
The donation-based workshop is designed for all fitness levels and ages. No yoga experience is necessary to learn the movements of deep breathing and other special exercises to realign the spine and release tension without pain.
“This workshop will give you tools to become self-reliant in your own healing process,” said instructor Michaelle Edwards. “Get aligned, supply your body with oxygen and it will heal itself.”
Edwards is the author of “YogAlign, Pain-free Yoga from Your Inner Core”, and owner of Kaua‘i Yoga School.
She is a posture educator, licensed massage therapist, and YogAlign innovator who teaches clients how to reboot postural patterns and help alleviate chronic pain.
“Yoga and stretching do not need to hurt,” she added.
A New Year’s resolution to improve one’s posture and breathing is what Edwards said people should consider for optimum health.
She said research from Cedar Sinai Spinal Institute shows that 95 percent of chronic pain is the result of bad posture.
“The Western world has an epidemic of back pain and bad posture,” Edwards said.
“This three-hour workshop is designed to reset your posture by using the movements of deep breathing with functional body positions that simulate how you use your body in real life.”
Edwards created the
YogAlign method from more than 30 years of experience with various yoga systems.
She has taught yoga for 15 years and said the improved posture has helped keep her injury free as an athlete and with her a career as a musician and vocalist.
After studying yoga with Swami Satchidananda in 1972, Edwards has lived and worked all around the United States and Mexico.
She has been on Kaua‘i since 1983.
There is a suggested donation of $45 to attend the workshop.
