LIHU‘E — The Department of Water announced it will hold four public meetings to allow community members to comment on a possible new rate structure for its Water System Development Fee.
According to DOW officials, monthly water rates cover the cost of providing service to existing customers and repairing or replacing existing equipment, and the WSDF is paid by new water users and existing users who need additional water.
The charge is designed to cover the cost of adding new capacity, including new water sources and storage and transmission pipelines.
The meetings will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at the following places:
• Today at the Koloa Neighborhood Center
• Friday at the Kapa‘a Neighborhood Center
• Monday at the Kekaha Neighborhood Center
• Tuesday at the Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center
Meetings at the Kilauea, Hanapepe and Kalaheo centers will be announced as soon as the details have been finalized.
