LIHU‘E — Nothing tops a good dessert like dessert, and this year, the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i has made tickets to its 20th annual Eat Dessert First available for holiday giving.
On Thursday during the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i’s meeting, Sharon Lasker, the marketing director at the Regency at Puakea, was lamenting the fact “real” candy canes were not available anywhere.
“A candy cane next to the Peanut Butter Cake sprinkled with sugar drizzle would have been perfect,” Lasker said. “I asked everyone and no one had any candy canes.”
But tickets for the Eat Dessert First made the perfect complement for the dessert created by Regency at Puakea Chef Ryan Theis who will be one of the chefs submitting desserts for the event.
The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation, which uses proceeds from the Valentine’s Day event for scholarships, announced the signature event will be held on Feb. 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Beach Resort.
The premier event, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2013, features desserts from local restaurants, hotels, local chefs, friends and neighbors of Zonta Club of Kaua‘i.
Some of the featured contributors include The Right Slice, Sweet Marie’s Hawai‘i, the Hukilau Lanai, the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa with Pastry Chef Orly Yadao, the Kaua‘i Chocolate Co. and the Regency at Puakea.
Along with the featured desserts, patrons can enjoy fruits, vegetables and cheese-and-cracker platters. Kaua‘i Coffee Company will host a no-host bar for drinks.
In addition to desserts, a silent auction with a variety of gifts will also be available.
Tickets, which make perfect stocking stuffers or employee gifts, are available at nine locations around the island, including Deja Vu Surf Outlet in Kapa‘a; Hairmates on Akahi Street in Lihu‘e; Island Hardware in the Princeville Shopping Center; Kalaheo Cafe and Coffee Co.; Kaua‘i Chocolate Co. at the Port Allen Marina in ‘Ele‘ele; Pictures Plus in Kukui Grove Center; Savage Pearls in the Ching Young Village Shopping Center in Hanalei; The Wine Shop in Koloa; and Vicky’s Fabrics on Kuhio Highway in Kapa‘a town.
Tickets are also available from any member of the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i.
Ticket prices are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, $15 of which is tax deductible. Children ages 4 years old and younger are admitted free.
A portion of the proceeds from the Eat Dessert First event is earmarked for scholarships for seniors at all Kaua‘i high schools as well as for women re-entering the workforce at the Kaua‘i Community College.
