WAILUA — Offering insights into the deep and sometimes troubling relationships between sisters, Women in Theatre is gearing up to produce “The Sisters Rosensweig.”
Auditions will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. today and from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at WIT’s End on the mauka side of Coconut MarketPlace, located at 4-484 Kuhio Highway in Kapa‘a.
Wendy Wasserstein’s “The Sisters Rosensweig,” examines the “disparity of wealth, class struggle, the fate of Islamic women, the flexing of foreign political might and “ways to pay for haute couture in a recession,” according to a release.
The show also promises to deliver laughs with insights about sisters, loves, men and the intersections where those collide.
Four roles for women and four roles for men are available.
• Sara Goode — At 54, Sara is the eldest Rosensweig sister and exudes dignity and authority. She is an international banker and Tess’ mother. This is a leading role.
• Gorgeous Teitelbaum — At 46, Gorgeous is the middle sister. She is very attractive and slightly overdone. Quite talkative, Gorgeous has her own radio advice talk show. This is a major role.
• Pfeni Rosensweig — At 40, Pfeni is the youngest sister and appears younger than her age. She is an independent and uncommitted world traveler and writer. Pfeni is Geoffrey’s lover. This is a major role.
• Mervyn Kant — At 58, Mervyn is a fake furrier who is a Jewish American widower. This is a leading role.
• Tess Goode — At 17, Tess is Sara’s daughter. She is smart, brash and in love with Tom. This is a major role.
• Geoffrey Duncan — At 40, Geoffrey is a colorful British movie and stage director. Lighthearted and overly dramatic, he is bisexual and Pfeni’s lover. He appears in four scenes.
• Tom Valiunus — At 20, Tom is Tess’ boyfriend, a working class kid with spiked hair and black boots. He affects a Liverpool accent and is politically militant. He appears in three scenes.
• Nicholas Pym — At 58, Nicholas is a sophisticated Englishman who is extremely well-groomed. He appears in two scenes.
Directed by Arnold Meister, the show will be held Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons from Feb. 22 to March 10 at WIT’s End.
There are openings for backstage crew members to handle props and costumes. Technical crew members are also needed to design and operate light and sound equipment. Prior to the show opening, set builders and cleanup crews are needed.
There are also openings for “Stage Moms and Pops,” to provide goodies at rehearsals, along with writers to help with copy and handle communications.
