LIHU‘E — The annual Lights on Rice Parade is scheduled to begin 6 p.m. today and portions of the parade route will be closed to traffic, according to a county news release.
The parade will begin at Vidinha Stadium, head down Ho‘olako and Rice streets, and end on Eiwa Street at the Historic County Building.
To accommodate the parade, the Kaua‘i Police Department will close off all streets along the parade route, from about 5:30 to 9 p.m. No parking will be allowed along the parade route.
Police officers will be manning the road closures.
The Kaua’i Police Department also requests that during the parade, the viewing audience stay off the paved roadway along the parade route to ensure public safety.
For the safety of pedestrians and vendors at the Kaua‘i Museum Christmas Fair, which is scheduled on the same day as the parade, there will be no access through the ‘Eiwa Street entrance behind the museum through noon on Saturday.
A private security company will be monitoring the parking area.
Motorists should allow additional time to get to their destinations as traffic delays are expected.
