Shane Kaiana Bender

Shane Kaiana Bender of Kapaa, Kauai, died on October 25, 2012 at Queen’s Hospital at the age of 52. Born on January 18, 1960, in Lihue, Kauai, he was a Laborer with AIS Construction Co.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Bender.

He is survived by his mother, MaryAnn Bender; brothers, Mark Veris (TJ Love) Bender of San Antonio, Texas, and Kent Kimo Bender of Oceanview, HI; sister, Donna Kuulei (Roy ) Ho of Kapaa, HI; numerous aunts, nephews, cousins, grandniece, and grandnephews; and companion, Michele Valenti.

Doris Crowell

Doris Fukuda Crowell passed away in August.  She was a beloved teacher at Waimea High School for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ikua Crowell, former Deputy Chief of Police of the County of Kauai.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Chang (Harry); brother, Richard Fukuda (Helen); four sons, George K. (Kathy), Robert (Helen), Mel, and Dee (Kathy Lee).  She also leaves behind eight devoted grandchildren.

A private ceremony was held at the Waimea United Church of Christ.

Rodolfo Pena

Rodolfo Bautista Pena of Puhi Kauai, Hawaii passed away on October 31, 2012 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 71.  Born on April 19, 1941 in San Manuel Pangasinan, Philippines, he was a heavy equipment operator for Lihue Plantation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo & Bibiana Pena; sisters, Lina Galamgam, Perfecta Larican.

He is survived by his wife, Rizalyn Pena, Puhi; son, Orlando (Liberty) Pena, Puhi; daughters, Marcelina (Limuel) Medina, Kaumakani, Marilou (Rizalde) Gasmen, Honolulu, Amalia (Virgilio) Andres, Seattle, Washington, Jessica”Tessie” (Noel) Follante, Seattle, Washington; sisters, Cirila (Miguel) Bermisa, Philippines, Cresencia (Eddie) Flores, Philippines; brother, Florencio Pena, Hanamaulu; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews and cousins.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday November 13, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lihue.  Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. with Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.; burial to follow at Lihue Cemetery.

Nolemana McFadden

Nolemana Ku’ulei McFadden of Kapaa passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on October 28, 2012 at the age of 36. She was born in Kingstree, South Carolina on January 11, 1976 and was employed by Walmart as a cashier.

She is survived by four children, Jeffreylin McFadden, Keanuenueokalani Ellamar-McFadden, Jeffrey Ellamar Jr., Seth Rapozo; parents, Norman McFadden and Sheila Nunes McFadden; siblings, Tracy Gonsalves, Sarah Gonsalves London, Dominique Gonsalves, Kevin Gonsalves, John-Luke McFadden, LaTisha McFadden-Nathan; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at Kapaa Assembly of God with services celebrated at 6:00 p.m. by Pastor Jerry Burgoin.

Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the McFadden family with arrangements.

Juliette Mira

Juliette “Julie” Irene Mira of Eleele, Kauai, Hawaii passed away on November 1, 2012 at the age of 81 at Kauai Care Center, Waimea.  Born on November 24, 1930 in Kekaha, Kauai, she was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Zoilo “Tony” Mira; and parents, Julian & Shandrina Sabala; and her brother, Peter Sabala.

She is survived by her sons, Anthony (Joanne) Mira; Manila, Philippines, Jeffrey (Lisa) Mira, Kapaa, Gregory (Monika) Mira, Eleele, Timothy (Lynn) Mira, Lawai; daughter, Julie Mira, Hanamaulu; brother, Joseph Sabala; sister, Maria Yap; 11 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life will be held on Thursday November 8, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Hearts Church in Eleele; burial to follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 11 a.m.
