PO‘IPU — Dalson Cua, a 10-year-old boy from Kalaheo, was the youngest runner in the 4th Kaua‘i Marathon Sunday.
Dalson finished the half marathon with a time of 3:10:09, placing fourth in the boys 15-and-under division. He was also the first Kaua‘i boy in his age division to cross the finish line .
“He’s the youngest runner,” said a proud Dale Cua, 42, who finished two seconds behind his son. “It’s Dale son without the ‘e’ — Dalson.” Dalson finished 961 overall out of 1,186 finishers in the half marathon, pacing at 14 minutes and 23 seconds per mile, according to the Kaua‘i Marathon official site.
He apparently also left his mother in the dust. Lianne Cua finished the half-marathon 65 positions behind Dalson, with a time of 3:20:06.
Despite having just finished more than three hours of running, Dalson was all smiles at the end of the race, hardly showing any fatigue. He quickly squeezed in between the two hula dancers from Kapu Kinimaka-Alquiza’s hula halau for a victory-lap portrait.
The full marathon, the main race of Sunday’s event, had 352 finishers, according to the marathon’s official site.
