Hats off to Dr. Paul Esaki who participated in the 4th Kaua‘i Marathon Sunday! Godwin Esaki (he had the Lihu‘e Aikido Club volunteering with the zero-waste program) said he was going to try and do the full marathon (in rubber slippahs?).
Mahalo to Robin Jumper for all the kokua in coordinating all the results and information for the event, and kudos to Jeff Sacchini and Bob Craver on another great event!
Art Umezu was on hand to cheer on Rumi Otani, the Iwaki City runner, and Laurie Yoshida was everywhere with husband Vernon.
Hats off to Dickie Chang on a great job emcee-ing the event and Ron Wiley did a great job announcing the names while providing updates on the full marathon leaders.
Valerie Roland said she had to get up early to make sure all the lights were on at the Po‘ipu Shopping Village and even had time to chat with Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. (Mary Daubert was one of the runners) before everything started.
Aunty Kapu Kinimaka-Alquiza was everywhere, getting torches to the torch bearers and coordinating the medal presenters.
