HANALEI — The Zonta Club of Hanalei’s Scholarship Committee awarded $10,000 to 16 area women this summer.
They represented students from all the area high schools as well as Kamehameha Schools, Kaua‘i Community College, University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, Pepperdine University and Purdue University. The women were chosen on merit, need and ambition and will use the money to further their educations, according to a news release from the Zonta Club of Hanalei.
Recipients and their guests gathered for a ceremony on June 16 followed by a luncheon at the home of Patricia Graves on Kalihiwai Ridge, the release states. About 75 people attended.
In the four years since the Zonta Club of Hanalei’s Scholarship Committee was formed, it has awarded more than $30,000 to Kaua‘i women.
Applications for 2013 will be available on the club’s website at the end of January.
There are two Zonta Clubs on the island and the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i also offers scholarships to area women.
