LIHU‘E — A program seeking to “ensure a source of qualified and committed leaders on Kaua‘i” has graduated hundreds of Kaua‘i residents over the last few years, and is now recruiting for its upcoming 2012-13 Adult Program, starting at the end of this month until June 2013.
Leadership Kaua‘i, Mohala i ka wai ka maka o ka pua, has graduated 155 adults and 114 youth leaders from all over the island, and has also completed 34 community projects since August 2005, according to a Leadership Kaua‘i news release.
Deadline to apply for the upcoming Adult Program is Aug. 17, and orientation is scheduled for Aug. 31.
The program aims to help participants to become a more effective leader and gain better sense of personal potential, increase their community and personal network, engage in community projects, learn more about the island’s culture and gain a better “sense of place and people,” and develop their communication skills, the release states.
Each annual adult program joins a cross-section of qualified Kaua‘i individuals who currently provide leadership in the community to develop their skills over a 10-month period, the release states. The program requires one or two meeting days each month, plus additional time as a volunteer to a community service project that participants help define.
Following the orientation at the end of August, participants will meet for the first time on Sept. 14 and 15, at the program’s opening retreat in Koke‘e. At that time, community projects will be selected.
Participants will continue to meet monthly. A closing retreat is scheduled for May 10 to 11, 2013, and a graduation lu‘au is set for June 14, 2013. For more information, visit www.leadershipkauai.org.
