Native Hawaiian kupuna ‘Uncle’ Tom Takahashi blesses Richard Speer, vice president of the civil and transportation department manager for URS Corporation, during a recent cultural site dedication of the Aegis Ashore Missile Defense Test Complex. Speer holds an umeke bowl filled with soil that was presented to him by Capt. Nicholas Mongillo, Pacific Missile Range Facility commanding officer, second from left. The soil is from two locations on PMRF where the AAMDTC is to be constructed. AAMDTC will be a joint venture between URS Corporation and Hensel Phelps Construction Company. The test complex at PMRF is critical to the development of the Aegis Ashore capability and is essential for verifying requirements and validating design capability prior to deployment at the first of two planned sites in Europe in 2015, a press release states.
