LIHU‘E — A Hanama‘ulu man received his second five-year sentence in two weeks Wednesday in 5th Circuit Court.
Hurley Anthony Kihepono Haiku, 50, was sentenced to prison for third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug. He is already serving a five-year sentence from a July 17 sentencing for possession of a firearm and ammunition that was prohibited from a prior felony conviction.
Judge Kathleen Watanabe ordered the sentence to run concurrent with the first one handed down by Chief Judge Randal Valenciano.
Watanabe said a sentencing is about options of probation and prison. She said Haiku’s extensive felony record with a poor probation and compliance history made the decision easier for the court.
County Second Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Samuel Jajich said the state recommended the five year term. State Deputy Public Defender Christian Enright asked that the sentences run concurrent.
