g accepted for the second annual Prince Invitational Golf Tournament which will be played July 28 and 29 at the Prince Course at the Princeville Golf Club.
The two-day event is open to professionals and amateurs competing for the championship title and Hawai‘i’s Governors’ Cup points, states a release.
Entry forms for the Prince Invitational Golf Tournament are available at Kaua‘i golf course pro shops around the island, or by requesting a form via email to info@princeville.com.
“Kaua‘i is home to some of Hawai‘i’s top amateur players and junior golfers, yet it is the only island without a competitive golf event since the Kaua‘i Open was discontinued 10 years ago,” said Steve Murphy, director of golf for the Prince Course. “We created the Invitational for amateurs, juniors, and professionals from Kaua‘i and across the state to join us for an enjoyable competition and a true test of their skills.”
The 18-hole Prince Course is known for its breathtaking natural beauty and magnificent 350-acre layout following the natural contours of the land. The Prince, in recent years, was consistently ranked as the No. 1 course in Hawai‘i and is recognized on Golf Digest’s list of “America’s 100 Greatest Courses” for 2011 and 2012.
The Prince Invitational Golf Tournament is a 36-hole stroke play format with four flights, based on the United States Golf Association Handicap Index: Professional/Championship handicap of five or less; A Flight handicap of 6 through 11; B Flight handicap of 12 to 18; and Open Women’s.
The overall champion will be determined by the lowest 36-hole gross score.
Professionals will compete for cash prizes and amateurs, for merchandise with the amount of the final purse determined by the number of entries and sponsors.
The $225 entry fee includes green fees, prizes, tee gifts and the Awards Luncheon on Sunday afternoon.
Entry to the tournament is limited to the first 120 players, with an entry deadline of July 20. Pre-event practice rounds will be offered to registered golfers at a specially reduced rate.
