Nelson Secretario has been named the new District Chairman of the Boy Scouts of America, Aloha Council, Kaua‘i District.
Secretario, a 30-year resident of Kaua‘i and owner and operator of Senior Wealth Advisory, a Lihu‘e investment firm, was unanimously approved as the district chairman by a three-person nominating committee comprised of Deacon Tommy Contrades, committee chair, Ulu Perreira and Tom Shigemoto, the outgoing district chair.
As the new district chair, Secretario will chair his first district committee meeting, Aug. 2 starting at 6 p.m. at Island School in Puhi.
He succeeds Shigemoto, vice president of A&B Properties, who served as district chairman for seven years and was recently selected as the Kaua‘i member of the University of Hawai‘i Board of Regents.
Perreira remains as the Boy Scouts, Aloha Council District Commissioner.
Secretario, a former member of the Kaua‘i County Council, has been involved in numerous other volunteer organizations on Kaua‘i over the years, including the Rotary Club, the Masons and Shriners.
He also served as chair of the County of Kaua‘i Liquor Control Commission.
Secretario said he intends to brings an atmosphere of success to Boy Scout programs on Kaua‘i.
Currently there are 325 young people in the Boy Scouting program on Kaua‘i, including two programs, Exploring and Venturing, which are open to boys and girls ages 14 to 20.
Additionally, more than 300 adult volunteers are active in various capacities in the Boy Scouting program.
Secretario assumes chairmanship of the district committee which includes volunteer adult committee chairs in charge of training, membership, advancement, activities, camping, properties and finance.
The Kaua‘i District of the Boy Scouts of America, Aloha Council is a member agency of the Kaua‘i United Way.
