PUHI — Representatives from Alexander & Baldwin presented a $25,000 check to Island School at the school’s Board of Directors annual meeting June 11.
The funds will be used toward the planning and construction of a new science, math and robotics complex at Island School’s Puhi campus, which is used by over 30 Kaua‘i-based organizations after hours in addition to the regular student body.
“Alexander & Baldwin is pleased to once again support Kaua‘i’s educational infrastructure with a $25,000 grant to Island School,” A&B Foundation President Meredith Ching said. “We have been doing business on this island for more than a century and we fully appreciate the importance of education and educational options to the betterment of the community.”
Ching said the grant builds upon past support A&B has provided to the school, which began in 1989 and to date totals more than $160,000. All the funding has been primarily for the development of the school’s Puhi campus and facilities.
“Having a strong independent college preparatory school available to Kaua‘i’s families in a convenient location helps make Kaua‘i an even more desirable location to raise a family and do business, and provides a long-term benefit for the community,” Ching said.
The A&B Foundation is funded by the business activities of Alexander & Baldwin Inc. and its subsidiaries which on Kaua‘i include Matson, A&B Properties, Kaua‘i Commercial Company, McBryde Resources, Nawiliwili Stevedores and Kukui‘ula Development Company.
