Richard Quinsaat
Richard James Quinsaat of Kalaheo, Kaua‘i, passed away on June 2, 2012, at his home at the age of 73. Born on April 17, 1939, in Koloa, Kaua‘i, he was retired from the Pacific Missile Range Facility, Marine Section.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Quintin A. Quinsaat and Annie Santana; and his sisters, Mertle Quinsaat and Sharon Holley.
He is survived by his wife Sandra P. Quinsaat; son, R.J. Quinsaat; daughters, Eva Rochelle Rockwell, Quinsiann (Fred) Laborte and Kasandra Quinsaat; 11 grandchildren and 1 great- grandchild; and sisters Linda Manatad, Diana Eichlin and Barbar Bell.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 9, at Kukuiolono Golf Course at 11:30 a.m. The family requests casual attire.

Andrew Ken Higa
Andrew Ken Higa of Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i, died at Queens Memorial Hospital on May 28, 2012, at the age of 59. He was born in Honolulu on Aug. 29, 1952. He had been currently employed in the maintenance department at Kaua‘i Marriott Hotel. He had also worked at Coco Palms Hotel, Kaua‘i Surf Hotel, Agape Painting Co. and Kaua‘i Resorts Hotel.
He was preceded in death by his father, Senkai Higa; and his sister, Caroline Okimoto of O‘ahu.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Blume-Higa; daughter, Karalee Higa of Kapa‘a; mother, Yae Higa, Honolulu and three brothers William (Sueko) Higa, Howard Higa, and Frederick Higa all from Honolulu; brother-in-law Timothy (Irene) Blume of Kapa‘a and brother-in-law, Richard Okimoto. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 16, at Kapa‘a Missionary Church with viewing at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m., refreshments to follow. Family request casual attire and flowers to be omitted.
Veronica Ulanday
Veronica Abes Ulanday of Kekaha, Kaua‘i, died May 22, 2012, at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, Calif., at the age of 89. Born on Aug. 26, 1922, in Bacil, Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a bus driver for Akita Enterprises for 40-plus years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernaldo “Blu” Ulanday Sr.; parents, Luis Abes and Toribia Souva Agrade Ulanday; sisters, Juanita Renti Cruz and Celadonia Aguedan; and daughters, Priscilla Warren and Estrella Sharon.
She is survived by sister, Esther Agor; daughters, Lettita Ulanday Weaver of Koloa, Loraine (Les) Stout of Columbus, Ohio, and Christine Mc Daniel of Costa Mesa, Calif.; sons, Bernaldo “Blu”(Rena) Ulanday Jr. of Lihu‘e and Mark (Debbie) Ulanday of Kekaha; 19 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, June 8, at Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church, Kekaha. Visitation will be at 8 a.m. with Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kekaha Public Cemetery.
The family suggests casual attire.

Saturnina Andres
Saturnina Daligcon Andres of Hanama‘ulu died on May 18, 2012, at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital at the age of 88. Saturnina was born on April 3, 1924, in Makaweli, Hawai‘i.
Saturnina was preceded in death by her husband Rizal, brother Isidro and Luciano, and sister Tina Manuel.
Saturnina is survived by one sister, Rosita Yadao of Kekaha, and two brothers, Gregorio (Victoria) Daligcon of ‘Ele‘ele and Mariano Daligcon of the Philippines; children Doreen (Ignacio) Baliza of Koloa, Adriana Andres (Ray Pegeder) of Hanama‘ulu, Artemio (Minda) Andres of Kaumakani, Rose (Prudencio Sr.) Labutong of Kalaheo; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-granchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Church from 8 a.m. and mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at the Lihu‘e Cemetery.

Reid Tanihiro
Reid Ken Tanihiro of Wailua Homesteads died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 27, 2012, at the age of 31. He was born in Lihu‘e on June 9, 1980. His passion was working with animals at Kaua‘i Humane Society and he was employed by Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at Lihue airport.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ronny Tanihiro Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Emi Tanihiro; brothers Ronny Tanihiro Jr. and Ryden Tanihiro; two nieces, Veronyka and Kalyssa Tanihiro; numerous aunties, uncles, cousins, friends and his beloved dog Tiny.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, June 10, at Kapa‘a Missionary Church with visitation from 2 p.m. and services celebrated at 3 p.m. A graveside committal and inurnment will be held at Kauai Memorial Gardens on Monday, June 11 at 10:30 a.m.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Tanihiro family with arrangements.
George Fernandes
George B. Fernandes of Wailua Houselots died on May 27, 2012, at the age of 93. He was born in Kapaia, Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i on Aug. 16, 1919, and retired from the State of Hawai‘i as a microbiologist for the Department of Health and also was a rancher and farmer. He was very involved in various organizations throughout Kaua‘i and the state. He was also a disabled WWII veteran.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Theresa R. Fernandes; son, Paul Fernandes; father, John B. Fernandes, mother Jesses Fernandes, brothers, William (Billy) Fernandes and John B. Fernandes Jr.
He is survived by his sons, George L. (Marcia) Fernandes of Las Vegas, Michael (Alison) Fernandes of Wailua Houselots, David (Amy) Fernandes of Waipouli; daughter JoAnn Yamaguchi of Waipouli; grandchildren Shawn (Melanie) Fernandes, Danielle Fernandes, Levi Fernandes, Jocelyn (Chad) Burch, Leland Fernandes, Shendon Yamaguchi, Chelyn Yamaguchi; great-grandchildren Zoe Fernandes, Kaleb Fernandes, Sadie Burch and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, June 8 at St. Catherine Church in Kapa‘a with viewing from 8:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.

Rudolfo Gandeza
Rudolfo “Rudy” Gandeza died May 19, 2012, at St. Francis Hospice in ‘Ewa at the age of 67. He was born on Feb. 11, 1945, in the Philippines and was raised on Kaua‘i. He was the supervisor for McDonald’s Hawai‘i.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richardo Gandeza and Tracilia Soriano, and his sister Sylvia Camat.
He is survived by his wife Jackie of O‘ahu, son Lance of O‘ahu, daughter Lareina of O‘ahu, stepmother Esther Gandeza of Hanama‘ulu, brothers, Nicasio (Lorna) Asuncion of San Francisco, John (Callie) Gandeza of Lihu‘e, Jame Gandeza of California, Joseph (Shelly) Gandeza of Lawa‘i, Jacob (Noreen) Gandeza of Hanama‘ulu, sisters Medina (Andy) Pawley of New Zealand, Florence Tavares of Lihu‘e, grandson Pono Gandeza of O‘ahu and numerous nieces and nephews.
