The Hanalei Pier received the 2012 Historic Preservation Centennial Recognition of its Hawaiian heritage and cultural importance to the North Shore community during the May 11 Hawai‘i Historic Foundation meeting in Honolulu.
Joining the recognition, the Hawai‘i State Legislature bestowed its recognition to the Hawai‘i Heritage Foundation for is commitment to protecting the Hanalei Pier and further, the Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay for spearheading the community fundraising efforts to preserve and restore the island treasure.
These awards were transferred to the Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay in a ceremony during the Hanalei-Ha‘ena Community Association meeting with Rep. Derek Kawakami representing the Hawai‘i State Legislature and Kaua‘i County Council Chair Jay Furfaro, presenting an invaluable copy of Project Punahele to the group, representing the county council.
