Sadamu Daida

Sadamu Daida of Lawa‘i, Kaua‘i, died on April 9, 2012, at Hale Kupuna Heritage at the age of 94. Born on Oct. 18, 1917, in Koloa, Kaua‘i, he was a retired heavy equipment operator with the County of Kaua‘i, a member of Medical Detachment 100th Battalion 442nd Infantry Regiment, and a Veteran of WWII.

 He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Shizuka Daida; parents, Reisaku and Akino Daida; brothers, Iwao Daida, Susumu Daida, Kayan Daida, and Sueto (Shirley) Daida; and a brother-in-law, Harry Fukushima.

He is survived by two sons, Bruce Daida of Lawa‘i and Barry (Merle) Daida of Mililani; four daughters, Gloria (Robert) Camp of Fallbrook, Calif., Darlene (Richard) Daida-Martin of Kalispell, Mont., Joy (Keith) Faufata of Ainakoa, Hawai‘i, and Sherry (Michael) Andrade of Lawa‘i, Hawai‘i; seven grandchildren, Eric (Christy) Dannenberg, Melani Dannenberg, Kayla Faufata, Noelle Faufata, Skye (Victor) Andrade Ngo, Michael Daida, and Paige Daida; four great-grandchildren, Austin, Ashlyn, Callie, and Tayler Dannenberg; two brothers, Masami (Margaret) Daida of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Masao (Adeline) Daida of Maui; a sister, Machie Fukushima of Kapahi, Hawa‘i; sisters-in-law, Toshie Daida of Lawa‘i and Nancy Daida of Lihue; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery. Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Service to begin at 11 a.m., with Military Honors to follow. The family suggests casual attire.

Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
