Kilauea man dies in 1-car crash

WAILUA — A Kilauea man died early Monday morning following a single car accident on Kuhio Highway near the Coconut Marketplace in Waipouli.

He was identified as 23-year-old Bruce Perdue.

According to a preliminary report, Perdue was heading north on Kuhio Highway at about 2:30 a.m. when his gray Hyundai sedan struck a utility pole along the northbound shoulder.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kuhio Highway was closed until about 8:07 a.m. while police conducted an investigation and utility crews replaced the downed pole that was blocking the highway.

There were no passengers in the vehicle at the time of the accident and no other injuries reported. The crash remains under investigation.

Perdue is Kaua‘i’s third traffic fatality so far this year.
