LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i’s Chad Machado, 47, claimed the Masters division title in the 2012 Stingrey Classic Bodybuilding Championship held at the Sheraton Waikiki in Honolulu last month.
Machado, a personal trainer who owns Thick As a Brick Athletics, said he won the Hawaiian Classic Masters 11 years ago and is proud to make a comeback all these years later.
“Coming back after a decade is pretty cool,” Machado said. “It’s a lot of perseverance and dedication. Everyone makes excuses for themselves every day. I come from a family with really poor genetics, but I’m working out every day and maintaining it and have a system that really works.”
Machado said he hopes his win can help inspire Kaua‘i’s youth to peruse and active and healthy lifestyle.
“What makes this fun for me is that I do a lot of mentoring for high-schoolers,” he said. “I just wanted to share with everyone a little bit of my success story.”
