HONOLULU — The Waimea Menehune softball team advanced to the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II State Softball Championship game, but unfortunately for Kaua‘i fans, the Menehune won’t be facing their island rival.
The top-seeded Menehune advanced to the title game with a 13-3 win over Kalaheo, while the unranked Red Raiders’ title hopes were dashed at the hands of Nanakuli in a 14-8 loss Friday night at the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium in Honolulu.
For the Menehune, Deanalyn Tafiti picked up the win while Gaylan Matagiese and Tafiti each added homeruns. In the Kaua‘i game, Ka‘a La‘amea had three hits and two RBI while Kyana Hirokane drove in three runs.
Waimea faces No. 2 seed Nanakului at 5 p.m. in today’s championship game. The game will be broadcast live on OC16 and on the radio on JAMZ 98.1 FM.
