Kauai’s eight credit unions join forces in an island-wide fundraiser and food drive from May 14 to 31 in support of the Kauai Independent Food Bank (KIFB), according to a press release.
Credit union members and non-members are encouraged to drop off food and monetary donations at any of the eight credit unions on Kaua’i, located from Kekaha to Kapa‘a.
“End Hunger in 20/12 is the theme,” says Melvin Chiba, President of the Kaua‘i Chapter of the Hawai‘i Credit Union League. “Together, Kauai‘’s Credit Unions’ goal is to raise $20,000 in monetary donations and 12,000 pounds of food, hence the ‘20/12.’ It’s essential that Kaua‘i’s Credit Unions support the KIFB because food and money collected on Kaua‘i stays on Kaua‘i and helps feed the island’s many hungry families.”
Each credit union will have a designated collection area. Donations can be dropped off during regular business hours at the following credit unions: Garden Island FCU, Kaua‘i Community FCU, Kaua‘i Government Employees FCU, Kaua‘i Teachers FCU, Kaumakani FCU, Kekaha FCU, Koloa FCU and McBryde FCU.
The eight most wanted items include pasta, tuna, peanut butter, canned soups, canned vegetables, rice, Ensure/Pediasure and canned fruits.
