Regina Lagundino

Regina Agoo Lagundino died on April 27, 2012, at her home in Kealia, at the age of 87. She was born to Carlota and Mamerto Agoo in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, on Sept. 6, 1924.

Regina was a former elementary school teacher in the Philippines and a former owner of the Lagundino Care Home on Kaua‘i.

Regina is survived by two daughters, Esther (Rolando) Tunac of Wailua and Ruth (Lyle) Stemo of Kealia; one sister, Martina Semana of Hanama‘ulu; six grandchildren, Alicia (Andrew) Lagundino-Schimmel of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., John (Shieryl) Silva of Carol Stream, Ill., Meryssa Tunac of Carol Stream, Ill., Justin (Marisa) Silva of Milwaukie, Ore., Ashley Tunac of Jacksonville, Fla., and Michael Tunac of Honolulu, Hawai‘i; two great-grandchildren, Salef Silva and Cleonie Silva of Carol Stream, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Regina is preceeded in death by her husband, Eusebio Lagundino, and her sisters, Lucita Acacio and Rose Acacio.

Services will be held on May 8 at the Kapa‘a Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Visitation will occur from 8 to 10 a.m. Service will begin at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens. The family welcomes flowers and suggests casual attire.

Ardis Nemitz

Ardis La Rue Nemitz passed away peacefully on Sept. 11, 2011, in Bozeman, Mont. at the age of 78. She was born on May 25, 1933 in Duquesne, Penn. Ardis loved the island and the people of Kaua‘i. She called Kaua‘i “Paradise” and lived for 15 years in Kalaheo.

Ardis is survived by her five children, Judi (Bob) Farrington, Carol (Michael) Eichers, Eric (Susan) Nemitz, Martin (Sharon) Nemitz and Jeremy (Lorie) Nemitz; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Travis; and one sister, Ellanore McWilliams

She was preceded in death by her brother, Warren Travis; and great-granddaughter, Claire Susanne Gaston. Her brother, Water Travis passed away in December 2011

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 5 at 4 p.m. at St. Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church at 4364 Hardy St, Lihu‘e. Father William Miller will officiate.

Thomas Gonsalves Jr.

Thomas Samuel Gonsalves Jr. of Kapa‘a died at home on April 20, 2012, at the age of 46. He was born in Lihu‘e on April 9, 1966, and was a member of the Hawai‘i Carpenters Union-Local 745.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lana Gonsalves.

He is survived by his son, Ryan Somera-Gonsalves; daughter, Lehualani Puuwai Laamea Joy; his wahine, Shelbi Joy, all of Kapa‘a; father, Thomas Gonsalves Sr. of Kapaia; sisters, Trini (Eric) Naea of Kekaha, Stacy Gonsalves of Kapa‘a; and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 5 at the Hanama‘ulu Beach Pavilion starting at 10 a.m.

Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Gonsalves family with arrangements.

Thomas Palama

Thomas “Tommy” J. Palama of Kalaheo, Kaua‘i, died on April 30, 2012 at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 73. Born on May 23, 1938 in Makaweli, he was a retired fireman. He was preceded in death by parents David and Marie Palama, Sr.; brothers Roland and Clarence Palama; sister Claire Palama; son Kaleo Palama and daughter Tanya Palama. He is survived by wife Patsy Palama;

sons Lance Palama, Kimo Palama, Kawila (Des)  Palama, Keola (Megan) Palama; daughter Tara Palama; brothers David (Moana) Palama, Jr., Artie (Lena) Palama and Stephan (Kathy) Palama; hanai brother Clayton Tremaine; numerous nieces and nephews, 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Friends may  visit with the family Saturday May 5, 2012 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo. Visitation at 9 a.m. Mass to be celebrated at 11. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemeteryin Hanapepe. The family suggests casual attire.

Stanley Momohara

Stanley Shigenari Momohara of Kalaheo died on April 23, 2012, at home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 87. He was born Oct. 11, 1924, in Lawa‘i, Kaua‘i. He was a farmer, locksmith and calibration technician for the Department of Weights and Measures.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Yoshiko Momohara; two sons, Daniel (Linda) Momohara of Kalaheo and Melvin Momohara of Kalaheo; a daughter, Suzette (Harvey Maeda) Momohara of Kalaheo; seven grandchildren, Kimberley (John) Medeiros, Kellyne Capuano, Kurt (Kim) Momohara, Kiley Momohara, Michelle (Pat) Funai, Matthew Momohara, and Nathan (Kristin) Momohara; a hanai granddaughter, Tram Dang; five great-grandchildren, John Medeiros, Jason Medeiros, Kichelle Momohara, Kaelin Capuano, and Camden Funai. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held Saturday, May 5 at the Kalaheo Missionary Church. Visitation is from 9 to 10:30 a.m., and service begins at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.    

Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.

Marie Grinder

Marie Jeanne Grinder, 98 years old, of Kilauea, passed away on April 29, 2012, at her home at the Regency at Puakea. Born on March 25, 1914 in Sask, Canada, she retired from University of California, (Irvine), Department of Psychobiology.

Survived by her daughter, Carole (Terry) Wells of Kilauea; her sister, Margo Hannan of California; two grandchildren, Grant Wells (Vindi) of Kilauea and Tiare Satistevan (Dean) of Colorado; and four great grandchildren.

Private Services. Inleau of flowers. And donations to Child and Family Services in Lihu‘e.
