KALAHEO — The Department of Water has scheduled a water outage for Kalaheo today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The shutdown will allow the DOW to make improvements on an existing hydrant, according to county officials.
During the shutdown, water service will not be available in parts of Kalaheo.
The areas that will have no water service are those along Pu‘uwai Road from the Wawae Road junction to just before the Kiu Anu Place junction. Those along Po‘ohiwi Road, Mahiai Street and Keoki and ‘Ohana Aina Place will also be affected.
The hydrant improvement is part of Water Plan 2020, DOW’s comprehensive long-range plan to replace or repair aging infrastructure so its customers can continue to be provided with safe and affordable water, states a DOW press release.
Affected customers who may have a faulty water heater should ensure that their water heaters do not empty during the outage and store enough water to meet their needs.
DOW will provide a portable water tank near the junction of Pu‘uwai and Wawae roads for customers affected by the shutdown. Customers will need to bring their own water containers.
Residents are asked to notify family, friends and neighbors who will be affected by the outage.
Visit www.kauaiwater.org for a detailed map of affected streets.
Affected customers who have listed phone numbers or have registered for the county’s Blackboard Connect CTY notification service will be contacted about the outage.
Those who have not yet signed up for the free notification service and would like to do so should log onto the county Website at www.kauai.gov or call the Kaua‘i Civil Defense Agency at 241-1800. Call DOW at 245-5461 from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for more information.
