Samuel Gonsalves
Thomas Samuel Gonsalves Jr. of Kapa‘a died at home on April 20, 2012, at the age of 46. He was born in Lihu‘e on April 9, 1966, and was a member of the Hawai‘i Carpenters Union-Local 745.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lana Gonsalves.
He is survived by his son, Ryan Somera-Gonsalves; daughter, Lehualani Puuwai Laamea Joy; his wahine, Shelbi Joy, all of Kapa‘a; father, Thomas Gonsalves Sr. of Kapaia; sisters, Trini (Eric) Naea of Kekaha, Stacy Gonsalves of Kapa‘a; and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 5, the Hanama‘ulu Beach Pavilion starting at 10 a.m.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Gonsalves family with arrangements.
Maximo Efhan
Maximo Mondarte Efhan Jr. “Bolo” passed away on Feb. 4, 2012, at Maui Memorial Hospital in Wailuku, Maui, at the age of 59. He was born on Nov. 30, 1952, and resided on Maui until his recent passing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Maximo Mondarte Efhan Sr., and Trinidad Camalliri Efhan; and his brother, Vince Allen Efhan “Kutie”.
Bolo is survived by his son Leon Kawika Efhan; his daughter, Mandy Leilani Efhan and his four grandchildren, Kainalu Efhan, Kainoa Gouveia, Leilani Gouveia and Kekona Gouveia; his sisters, Wonda Rodenborn (Peter), Natalie Carlos (Thomas) and Karen Schoener (Paul); and brother, Clyde Efhan (Janell).
Wake services will be held on Saturday, May 5, at The Immaculate Conception Church in Kapaia at 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. for family and friends, and to be followed by services at 10 a.m. The scattering of ashes will follow shortly after the services at the “Lihi” (Kapa‘a Boat Harbor).
Larry Walcher
Larry Walcher passed away at Queens Hospital April 18, 2012. He was born in Kansas on Sept. 12, 1943. He worked for Apria Healthcare.
Larry spent the last 15 years of his life living his dream in Kaua‘i with his grandchildren and his friends, and surfing every day he could.
He is survived by one son, Christopher, from Arizona. Larry is also survived by his two beloved grandchildren, Matt and Hayley, and his loving and caring hanai family Will, Mary, Craig, Joe, Annie and Larry, plus his other wonderful friends.
JoAnne Salazar
JoAnne Kelley Salazar of Waimea died at Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital on April 27, 2012 at the age of 75. Born in Cardin, Okla. on Jan. 21, 1937, she was employed by Lockheed Martin in her twenties, and then worked at Sheraton Kaua’i until her career was shortened due to disablility.
She is survived by her lifelong companion, Ludevico “Jackie” Pigao; sons, Raymond (Lahea) Salazar of Koloa, Rick (Melissa) Salazar of Orting, Wash.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, May 3, at St. Theresa’s Parish in Kekaha, with visitation from 9 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m.
Burial to follow at Kaua’i Memorial Gardens. Family suggests casual attire.
