High surf closes two North Shore beaches Tuesday

The Kaua‘i Fire Department closed Ha‘ena and Ke‘e beaches on Tuesday due to high surf conditions, and lifeguards also reported a shark sighting in waters off Ha‘ena Beach.

Ocean Safety Bureau officials reported the shark was sighted about 9:30 a.m.

Lifeguards remained at the two North Shore beaches throughout the day to notify beach-goers of the closure. Both beaches will reopen as early as today if surf conditions improve, the Fire Department reported.

Swimmers were advised to swim at guarded beaches in Po‘ipu and Salt Pond on Tuesday.
