Bomb threat reported at Brennecke’s

PO‘IPU — The Kaua‘i Police Department responded to a reported bomb threat Sunday at Brennecke’s Beach Broiler.

Dispatch alerted police that Brennecke’s management reported that someone had phoned in a bomb threat to the Po‘ipu restaurant just after 2 p.m.

An employee of the restaurant said by phone that customers were evacuated for about 30 minutes.

Management was not available for comment, the employee said.

Kaua‘i County spokeswoman Mary Daubert said a caller with a blocked telephone number reportedly called and told an employee that a bomb had been placed in the restaurant.

Police made a thorough search of the premises and found no suspicious items, Daubert said.

The restaurant was cleared for re-entry at approximately 2:45 p.m.

Police are attempting to trace the suspicious call. There are currently no suspects.

Anyone with information about the threat is asked to contact Police Dispatch at 241-1711 or Crime Stoppers at 241-1887.
