DENVER — University of Hawai‘i’s Scott Squier has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Squier, a freshman from Phoenix, Ariz., picked up his second win of the season — improving to 2-1 — when he shut out Wichita State over eight innings while striking out seven. His performance equaled the longest outing of the season for the UH pitching staff.
After a rough initial outing against Oregon on Feb. 20, Squier tossed six shutout innings while giving up only two hits to Wagner College, followed by last week’s outing against Wichita.
The UH Rainbows are 9-4 after winning three of four games against the Shockers. The Rainbows will host Central Michigan for a four-game series starting tonight at 6:35.
