Kaua‘i Gateball successful at tournament

O‘AHU — The Kaua‘i Gateball Club sent two teams to participate in the 10th Happy New Year – USA Friendship Gateball Tournament, held at Ala Moana Beach Park on Jan. 15.

Teams from Kaua‘i, O‘ahu, Maui, the Big Island and Japan all participated.

Kaua‘i Team No. 2 placed fifth overall. The No. 2 team was comprised of Kaohu Cummings, Carolyn Cummings, Gilroy Yorkman, Marilyn Yamaguchi, James Poe, Lorna Poe and Cody Graham.

Kaua‘i Team No. 1 was composed of Ron Aceret, Kathy Aceret, James Bacarro, Kathy Bacarro, Manuel Lopez and John Lorenzo.

The Kaua‘i teams met with Tajiro Igarashi from Hokaido, Japan. Igarashi is rated Japan’s No. 1 gateball player.

In 2011, the Kaua‘i Gateball Club donated $1,000 to the Japan Tsunami Relief Fund.
