George Kamenides
George Anthony Kamenides of Kapa‘a died at home on Feb. 22, 2012, at the age of 51. He was born in Massachusetts on July 21, 1960, and was the proprietor of George Kamenides Interiors. He considered himself a kama‘aina after living on Maui for 12 years and then living on Kaua‘i for the past 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Pilar Kamenides; sister, Christina; and his loving dog, Kila.
He is survived by one brother, Charles (Jennifer) Kamenides; two sisters, Deni (Fred) Gradwohl and Grace Kamenides; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday at Kalapaki Beach Park at noon with scattering of his cremains to follow. Loose flowers welcome. Donations can be made to the Kaua‘i Humane Society.

Bette O’Donnell
Bette Louise O’Donnell of Po‘ipu, Kaua‘i, passed away on Feb. 16, 2012, at 88 years old at her residence in Po‘ipu, Kaua‘i. She was born on April 18, 1923, in Oakland, Calif., and was a retired real estate agent.
Together with her husband, mother and aunt, they relocated to sunny Po’ipu in 1980 and never looked back! Bette thoroughly enjoyed all of her 32 years here on the beautiful Garden Isle, and she was an active volunteer for many of those years with various local organizations. Visits with her family and friends were one of her greatest joys.
She is preceded in death by parents, Arthur and Agnes Oppedal; brother, Art Oppedal; husband, Jim O’Donnell.
She is survived by daughters, Carol O’Donnell, Gayle O’Donnell, Jean (Robb) Craig; five grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Celebration of Life to be held on Saturday, March 3, at 3 p.m. at her residence in Po‘ipu. Donations may be made to Kaua’i Hospice.

Peggy Furushima
Peggy LaRue Furushima of Garland, Texas, passed away on Jan. 9, 2012. Born in Dallas, Texas, on Feb. 6, 1994, she was a retired federal funds transfer officer at First National Bank of Dallas.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Takeshi Furushima, and her parents, Harold and LaRue Saunders.
She is survived by daughters, Kim (Brett) Fincanon of Texas and Ami (Chris) Furushima-Ellis of Virginia; sisters, Konitta Jo (Ted) Pohrte of Texas and Vicki (Leonard) Edgar of Texas.
A celebration of life was held on Jan. 13 at the Community Bible Chapel in Richardson, Texas.
Richard Amorin
Richard “Ricky” Dwayne Amorin of Lawai, Kaua‘i, passed away on Feb. 17, 2012, at home in Lawai at the age of 57. Born on April 4, 1954, in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i. He was a mailman with the U.S. Postal Service.
He is survived by parents, Joaquin & Monica Amorin; sister, Claudia (Charles) Boggs.
Private services were held.

Naomi Nishida
Naomi J. Nishida of Wailua Homesteads passed away Feb. 22, 2012. She was born June 3, 1950, at Wilcox Hospital on Kaua‘i. She was a great sister, auntie, classmate and a lifelong teacher.
She was preceded in death by her father James E. Nishida and mother Minnie F. Nishida and brother Lowell M. Nishida.
She is survived by her brother James E. Nishida Jr., who is married to A.Kimberlin Blackburn of Kapa‘a, brother Nelson N. Nishida who is married to Ruth M. Nishida of Las Vegas, and her niece Aida K. N. Watson, who is married to James Watson of Ohio, and many beloved cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, at the Kapa‘a Jodo Mission. Memorial service officiated by the Rev. Shoryu Akiya will begin at 4:30 p.m. A celebration of her life will follow in the church hall. Casual attire is suggested.

Margaret Duncan
Margaret Pong Yai Duncan of Hanama‘ulu died at home on Feb. 24, 2012, at the age of 84. She was born in Anahola, Kaua‘i, on Dec. 16, 1927, and worked at various jobs throughout her lifetime and was a dedicated church member.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Duncan; daughter, Iris Hernandez; parents, Do Hyun Woo and Marry Woo; siblings, Pogne Park, Edward Woo, Paul Woo, Grace Ramos, Irene and Jerry Woo.
She is survived by her sons, Walter (Doreen) Chong of Huntington Beach, Calif., Alvin Chong of O‘ahu, Lloyd Chong of O‘ahu; daughter, Sandra Kaui of Hanama‘ulu; siblings, Soone (Patrick) Apilado of Kekaha, Marjorie Orr of Arizona, George (Kulani) Kim of Kalihi, O‘ahu; son-in-law, Angel Hernandez of O‘ahu; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, March 4, at Kapa‘a Seventh Day Adventist Church with viewing from 10 a.m. and services celebrated at noon.

Florencia Lewis
Florencia “Nesang” Paden Lewis passed away on Feb. 12, 2012, at Nathan Adelson Hospice Care at the age of 70. She was born May 12, 1941, in Koloa. She joined the Army at the age of 18. After she was discharged, she attended clerical school & continued clerical positions at Pearl Harbor Naval Exchange.
She was preceded in death by her parents Donato and Maria Paden, sisters Emilia LaPuente and Lucia Alcares, brothers Margarito Paden, Carlito Paden and Constancio “Slats” Paden.
She was survived by husband James A. Lewis Sr of Las Vegas, Nev., daughters Jamie (Jorge) Lewis Perez of Newark, N.J., Jerri (Roland) Pascua-Aganon of Las Vegas, son James A. Lewis Jr. of Las Vegas, Jody A. Lewis of Las Vegas, sister Sofea Cagalawan of ‘Ele’ele and brother Ernesto (Rosita) Paden of Koloa, sister-in-law Linda Paden of Koloa, seven grandchildren and one great-grand child.
Private services were held. Interment will be at a later date.
Margaret Y. Oshita
Margaret Y. Oshita of Kapa‘a died on Feb. 17, 2012, at the age of 89. Born on June 25, 1922, she was a retired personnel director with the State of Hawai‘i.
She was preceded in death by her Parents Kaoru and Eiko Yorita, one son; Damon Oshita; two brothers; Herbert Yorita and Harold Yorita ,and one sister, Peggy Yorita.
She is survived by her husband; George N. Oshita of Kapa‘a. Three sons; Russell Oshita of Honolulu, Clayton Oshita of Kapa‘a, Marvin Oshita of Kapa‘a and one brother; George Yorita of Honolulu.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 4, at the Kapa‘a United Church of Christ. Visitation from 2:30p.m. to 3 p.m. Service to begin at 3 p.m. The family suggests casual attire.

Bartolome Viernes
Bartolome V. Viernes of Puhi, Kaua‘i, passed away on Feb. 22, 2012, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 90. Born on Oct. 14, 1921, in the Philippines, he was a retired plant operator with the sugar industry.
He is preceded in death by his son Rogelio Viernes and his great-great grandchildren, twins Gaylene and Daylene Ebinger.
He is survived by his wife, Carlina Viernes; daughters, Marylou (Gary) Titus and Evelyn Sarte; sons, Danilo (Kathleen) Viernes and Arnel (Sally) Viernes; sister, Visita Turqueza; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 4, at Immaculate Conception Church from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Lihu‘e Cemetary.

Kuuipo Burley
Kuuipo Gail Kaiwa Burley of Lawai, Kaua‘i, passed away on Feb. 24, 2012, at Ewa Beach at the age of 74. Born on Jan. 13, 1938, she was a veteran with the U.S. Army, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints-Kalaheo Ward and a housewife.
She is survived by her husband Stewart “Stu” Burley; sons, Skipper (Tasy) Burley of Kalaheo, Sperry (Renee) Burley of Wailua; daughter, Surreyann (Reuben) Parongao of Lawai; sister, Ivy Rivera of Kekaha; 8 grandchildren, Seneca Burley of Hilo, Ryan Parongao of Las Vegas, Sera Burley of Kalaheo, Taylor Parongao of Lawai, Sydnie Burley of Wailua, Shelbie Burley of Kalaheo, Steeler Burley of Wailua, Syren Burley of Wailua; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 9 a.m., Saturday, March 3, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints-Kalaheo Ward.
Grace Pastor
Grace Joy Pastor of California died in at her daughter’s home in Washington on Feb. 16, 2012, at the age of 69. She was born in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Aug. 27, 1942. Formerly a teacher on the Big Island of Hawai‘i, she retired as an administrative assistant for the School of Dentistry in Loma Linda, Calif.
She is survived by her husband, James Pastor; five children, Jamie Joy Pastor, John Wesley (Swanhild) Pastor, James Salvador Pastor, Joseph Earle Pastor, Janene Leilani (Andrew) Soeprono; siblings, Harry Rosaasen, Ed (Judy) Rosaasen, Bob Rosaasen, Jerry (Sylvia) Rosaasen, Tom (Barb) Rosaasen, Richard Rosaasen, Kenneth (Judy) Rosaasen, Nancy (John) Baleja; six grandchildren, Daphney Pastor, Simon Soeprono, Aria Soeprono, Jacob Soeprono, Kaiya Soeprono Philip Pastor; mother-in-law, Tokiko del Prado; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, Kapa‘a class of ‘57 ‘ohana, loved her dearly.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, March 2, at 10 a.m. at Kapa‘a Seventh Day Adventist Church. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.

Richard Louis
Richard “Dicky” Ernest Louis of ‘Oma‘o, Kaua‘i, died on Feb. 16, 2012, at Queen’s Hospital at the age of 62. Born on Aug. 10, 1949 in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, he was a retired proprietor of Richard’s Auto Body Paint Shop.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Gussie Louis; wife, Drucilla “Cilla” Louis; brother Warren Louis Sr.
He is survived by his three sons Richard (Colleen) Louis, Derrick (Jemi) Louis and Kevin Louis; daughter Lynell (Brady) Tokuda; pets Liko and Precious; six grandsons and one granddaughter; companion Emily Fontanilla; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, March 2, at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa from 9 a.m., and mass will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Raphael’s Church Cemetery.

Margaret Freitas of ‘Oma‘o, Kaua‘i passed away on Feb. 26, 2012 at Garden Isle Healthcare Center at the age of 94. Born on April 1, 1917, in ‘Ele‘ele, Kaua‘i, she was retired from the pineapple industry.
She is survived by her daughter Millie (Albert) Souza; 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, March 7, at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa from 8 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Raphael’s Church Cemetery in Koloa.
