HANAKAPI‘AI — An island visitor was rescued from the Hanakapi‘ai Trail Monday afternoon.
The 55 year-old Oregon man called Police Dispatch at about 1 p.m. According to a county spokesperson, the man reportedly injured his ankle while hiking and requested assistance.
Rescue 3 personnel aboard Air 1 flew to a nearby landing zone in the valley. Rescue workers reported locating the victim approximately one-quarter mile from the landing zone.
The man was placed on a stretcher and carried back to the aircraft by three rescue workers and a bystander. He was then flown to Princeville Airport where awaiting medics transported him to Wilcox Hospital for treatment.
