This week’s movie is a romance flick for couples of all ages.
“Water for Elephants,” released in April, is rated PG-13 and runs for 120 minutes.
It stars Robert Pattinson and Reese Whiterspoon.
“Water for Elephants” is a spectacular story that takes place during the Great Depression. Jacob (Robert Pattinson) starts a lifelong romance with circus star Marlena (Reese Witherspoon) when Jacob joins the circus after the death of his parents.
Jacob is a 23-year-old veterinary science major studying at Cornell University. He’s ready to take his final exam when officers confront him and tell him his parents have died in a car accident.
Jacob is left penniless and finds himself with no choice but to hit the rails and look for work. When a train comes by, he hops on board. He discovers he is riding with the Benzini Brothers Circus train. Being a smart young man eager for work, Jacob finds himself a job with the circus. Owner August finds out about Jacob and asks him about himself before throwing him off the train.
Jacob isn’t fooled and knows August’s theory, so Jacob proves himself, explaining he is a Cornell graduate who studied veterinary science. He tells August that one of the Benzini Brothers’ lead-act horses is hurt and will soon die, hoping the prognosis will give him the opportunity to stay aboard and join the circus. August believes Jacob can be of some help, and Jacob gets the chance to prove himself.
Marlena, August’s wife, is the star of the circus and known for her grand act with the horses. Jacob explains to Marlena that one of her horses is injured, can’t perform and needs to be put down because there is no cure for its illness. Marlena is devastated but understanding.
August doesn’t believe Jacob and says the horse will continue to perform. Marlena doesn’t know how much longer her horse can survive and allows Jacob to put the horse down with or without August’s permission. The horse is killed and August is furious.
Jacob tries to explain his case but August doesn’t understand and leaves hating Jacob. Desperate to find a new act, August brings in a old elephant named Rosie; Jacob helps Marlena train Rosie, and slowly the two fall in love.
One day Marlena and Jacob run away from the circus, but August finds where they are hiding and separates them from each other.
However, we all know true love always finds its way.
Marlena and Jacob find each other and fight through their obstacles, allowing them to be together.
Finally, they are together, and their love lasts a lifetime.
I rate this movie nine out of 10.
