The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement is seeking up to 30 native Hawaiian families to participate in Homestead Self Help Projects in Kapolei and Anahola on Kaua‘i.
Grants will be made available for down payments and debt reduction, and free services will be offered to help reduce energy costs. Free financial and home ownership counseling also will be offered to the public, the council stated in a news release.
A free workshop will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Anahola Hawaiian Homes Association (AHHA) Resource Center at 4523 Ioane Rd in Anahola.
Workshops also will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 15 and 16 at the AHHA Resource Center in Anahola.
The council said 20 homes will be built in Kapolei, and 10 homes will be built in Anahola.
The workshops will focus on the council’s Homestead Self Help Program, Hawai‘i Family Finance Project, Hawai‘i Energy Program and Hawai‘i Individual Development Grant program.
The Homestead Self Help Program provides low-cost homes through family labor contributions and the savings accrued through bulk purchases of materials. This program also provides free financial and home ownership counseling and access to grants for down payment help and debt reduction.
Native and non-native Hawai‘i residents can access free services and grants for down payments on homes or paying down debts to qualify a loan through the Hawai‘i Family Finance Project.
The Hawai‘i Energy Program provides solar water grants and photovoltaic loans throughout the state.
