Itsuko Tamura
Itsuko Muraoka Tamura of Kilauea died on Jan. 22, 2012, at the age of 89 at Garden Isle Health Care. She was born on Dec. 22, 1922, in Japan and was a retired housekeeping supervisor with Hanalei Bay Resorts and a nurse practitioner before starting a family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tatsuo Tamura; daughter, Frances Yamamoto; parents, Yoichi and Sumio Muraoka; brothers, Toshio Muraoka and Shigeto Muraoka and sister, Sugino Muraoka.
She is survived by her son, Lane Tamura of Kilauea; daughters, Victoria (Fred) Wong of Tennessee; Gwen Tamura of Kilauea; grandchildren, Lori (John) Breit of Illinois; Jon (Jo) Wong of Nevada; Lyndsy Tamura of California; Lance Tamura of Kilauea and Levi Tamura of Colorado; great-grandchildren, Samantha Breit, Carolyn-Paige Breit and Gracie Wong; sisters, Tomi Miyoshi of O‘ahu, Sue (Goji) Iwakiri of California and Mitsue Horswill of Maui; sisters-in-law, Michie Yonekura; Masayo Yoshihara; Chieko Ota; Eleanor Tamura and Elaine Tamura; numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Muraoka family with arrangements.
Alfred Victorino
Alfred Victorino Jr. of Kapa‘a, the last survivor of 13 siblings, died at home on Jan. 25, 2012, at the age of 92. He was born in Lawai, Kaua‘i on June 22, 1919, and worked at Lawai Cannery as a boiler operator and later retired as a power house operator at Makaha Ridge with Dyna Electronic.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda Victorino; five children, Barbara (Richard) Ebinger, Charlotte (Russell) Maeda, Richard (Patricia) Victorino, Brenda (Eddie) Barriga and Donna Medina; multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Immaculate Conception Church with visitation from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Victorino family with arrangements.
Carla Briggs
Carla Kuulei Briggs of Kapa‘a passed away on Jan. 26, 2012, at her home at the age of 56. She was born on March 1, 1952 on O‘ahu. She was a bank teller.
She is survived by her two daughters, Heather Conner of Kapa‘a and Jennifer Briggs of Kapa‘a; mother, Maxine Teixeira of Kapa‘a; brother, Richard (Fradelle) Teixeira of Kilauea; sister, Sharon Teixeira of Kapa‘a and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Feb. 4, at Lihu‘e Lutheran Church from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. where memorial services will be celebrated at 10 a.m.

Toshie Shimizu
Toshie H. Shimizu of Wailua, Kaua’i, died on Jan. 5, 2012, at home at the age of 89. Born on Sept. 25, 1922, in Hanapepe, Kaua’i, she was a housewife.
She is survived by her son, Karl Shimizu of Thailand; daughters, Gloria Shimizu of Kapa’a and Pearl Shimizu of Kapa’a; brother, Tada Ted Hashimoto of Hanapepe; sister-in-law, Chiyoko Hashimoto of Kekaha; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Kapa’a Hongwanji Mission; service at 4 p.m. Casual attire. Flowers omitted.
