Dexter Nishi
Dexter T. Nishi of Waimea died on Jan. 15, 2012, at the age of 64. He was born on Sept. 21, 1947 He was a retired inspector with the County of Kaua‘i, Public Works Division, and a Big Save delivery driver.
He is survived by one sister, Yasue “Sue” Kano of Kapa‘a; two nephews, Elliot (Dana) Kano of Hawai‘i Kai and Hugh Kano of Sacramento, Calif.; one niece, Marsha (Bruce) Legg of Sacramento, Calif.; aunt, Patsy Sakai of Lihu‘e; uncle, Katoru Kaneko of Aiea, and numerous cousins.
Memorial Services will be held on Jan. 23 at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel, with visitation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Service to begin at 10 a.m. Burial at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary Ltd.
Edward Martins Sr.
Edward Martins Sr. of Kapa‘a passed away on Jan. 11, 2012, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 89. He was born in Kapa‘a on Oct. 1, 1922. He was retired from the County of Kaua‘i.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Martins, and son, Gary Martins. He is survived by his sons, Donald (Doreen) Engwer of Kapa‘a; Edward (Maria) Martins Jr. of Kapa‘a, and Thomas (Claire) Martins of Kapa‘a; daughters, Susan (Humphrey) Hernandez of Kapa‘a; Judith (Gary) Cole of Missouri; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
At Edward Martins’ request, no services will be held.

Dorris Batt
Dorris H. Batt of Princeville, Kaua’i, passed away peacefully at her home on Jan. 10, 2012, at the age of 91. She was born in Beacon, New York, on Feb. 8, 1920. She was a history teacher, wife and mother. She was married to George Batt on Aug. 17, 1946. They moved from Beacon, New York, to Kaua’i in 1976. She always said her best years were here on Kaua’i.
She was preceded in death by son, David Batt; husband, George Batt and parents, Friedrick and Edith Heaney.
She is survived by daughters, Jane (John) Timmons of Dillon, Colo.; Wendy (Charlie) Elsasser of Princeville; grandchildren, Heather (Paul) Beckett of New Delhi, India; Rama Timmons of Dillon, Colo.; Jamie (Courtney) Timmons of Crested Butte, Colo., and Justin Knipple of Raleigh, N.C.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Waioli Hu’uai Church, Hanalei. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and service at 2 p.m.
Donations may be made to Kaua’i Hospice or Waioli Hu’uai Church.

Jaime Pascua
Jaime Salvador Pascua of ‘Ele‘ele, Kaua‘i, passed away on Jan. 7, 2012, at home at the age of 85. He was born on April 3, 1926, in Ewa, Hawai‘i. He was a retired field worker with McBryde Sugar Plantation.
He was preceded in death by parents, Narcisco and Concordia Pascua; brother, Luis Pascua; and sister, Catalina Pascual.
He is survived by his wife, Esmenia Pascua; sons, Rodney (Jan) Pascua of Kalaheo and Edwin (Mely) Pascua of Hanamaulu; daughters, Eveline (Rodger) Corpuz of ‘Ele‘ele and Delia (Allen) Tumbaga of ‘Ele‘ele; brother, Eloy Pascua of Kekaha; sister, Incarnation Ringor of the Philippines; grandchildren, Bryson Tumbaga, Cyrus Tumbaga, and Tiana Pascua, Jaimie Pascua and James Pascua; great-grandchildren, Jayvier Butay and Sylas Butay; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on Jan. 21 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo with visitation from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Mass to begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Doris Clifton
Doris Rosabelle Clifton of Omao died at home on Jan. 14, 2012, at the age of 92. She was born in New Brunswick, Canada, on Dec. 20, 1919, and was a dedicated homemaker.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann (John) Mendivil of Omao; son, Richard Clifton of Palm Springs, Calif.; brother, Lester Gray of Canada, and one granddaughter.
Services will be held in California.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
