WAIMEA — The county Department of Water has scheduled a water outage in Waimea from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.
During the shutdown, water service in parts of Waimea Valley will not be available. The shutdown will allow the water department to replace an aging fire hydrant, states a county press release.
The areas that will have no water service are those along the Menehune and Alawai roads junction and all the way into Waimea Valley, including Menehune Place and Pule, Ki‘i, Gay (Olioli) and Kalo roads. Visit www.kauaiwater.org for a detailed map of affected streets.
The agaency is advising affected customers to store enough water to meet their needs and ensure that water heaters do not empty during the outage.
The agency will provide a portable water tank near the junction of Alawai and Menehune roads for customers affected by the shutdown. Customers will need to bring their own containers.
Residents are asked to notify family, friends and neighbors that will be affected by the outage.
The agency apoloized in advance for the outage needed to repair an aging infrastructure. The hydrant replacement is part of Water Plan 2020, the agency’s long-range plan to replace or repair aging infrastructure.
Affected customers who have listed phone numbers or have registered for the county’s Blackboard Connect CTY notification service will be contacted by the Connect CTY service.
In addition, department personnel are going door-to-door notifying area residents about the outage.
