Toshiyuki Hirabayashi
Toshiyuki Hirabayashi passed away peacefully in Burlingame, Calif., on Jan. 1, 2012, at age 96. He was born in Irvington (now Fremont), Calif., on Feb. 9, 1915. He resided on Kaua‘i from 1954 through 2004, when he and his wife moved to Burlingame.
He was principal at Ko’olau Elementary, Kaumakani Elementary, Kekaha Elementary, and Waimea High and Elementary Schools. He was a curriculum specialist in the district office prior to his retirement in 1977.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Midori; son, Glen (Donna) Hirabayashi and their daughters, Ashley and Amy; son, Dean (Debby) Hirabayashi and their children, Kristin and Michael; daughter, Joan (Richard) Reichard and their daughters, Midori (Jason) Sliger and Aiko Reichard; son, Mark Hirabayashi; great granddaughter Evangeline Sliger and sister Mary Sakai.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 4 p.m., at the Mountain View Japanese Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 195 N. Rengstorff Ave., Mountain View, Calif., 94043.
Margaret Canute
Margaret Ogard Canute of Hanapepe, Kauai formerly of Kekaha, Kaua‘i, died on Jan. 2, 2012, at Hanapepe, Kaua‘i at the age of 85. She was born on Aug. 22, 1926, in Hettinger, North Dakota; she was a retired accounting clerk with Pacific Missile Range Facility Barking Sands.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albin “Jack” Canute and daughter, Jacquelyn Canute.
She is survived by sons, Thomas (Joy) Canute of Hanapepe, Kauai, Timothy (Deidre) Canute of Vancouver, British Columbia and Michael (Joyce) Canute of Kaneohe, Hawai‘i; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Alton “Swede” Ogard of Anchorage, Alaska and Roger Ogard of Twin Peaks, Calif.; sister, Roberta Snape of Las Vegas, Nev.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
No services will be held.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary Ltd.
Saturnino Leones
Saturnino A. Leones of Puhi, Kaua‘i passed away on Dec. 15, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 49. He was born on Oct. 7, 1962, in the Philippines.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosa Leones; brother, Rosmin Leones; and two sisters, Merilou Aspacio and Magdalena Idayan.
He is survived by his father, Samson (Leonida) B. Leones; son, Lionel Cadanova Leones; daughter, Cassie Leones; sisters, Merelin (James) Barnes; Victoria (Anthony) Reyes and Teresa Leones; brother, Darwin Leones; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Jan. 7, at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., where mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Raphael’s Church Cemetery.
