Daniel Suga
Daniel I. Suga of Hanapepe died on Dec. 25, 2011,at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 64. Born on March 21, 1947, in Hanapepe, he was a self Employed General Contractor with Dan Suga Construction.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald Itsuo Suga and Kimie Nakagawa Suga.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche Suga; sons, Scott Suga (Marla) of Waimea, Keith Suga (Jill) of Hanapepe and Kevin Suga (Leilani) of Hanapepe; grandchildren, Keisha Suga, Kendra Suga, Kelson Suga and Leily Suga; brother, Ken (Kazuko) Suga of Lafayette, California and sister, Kathy (Aaron) Uyeda of Waimea.
Friends may visit with the family from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7 at Waimea Foreign Church; service at 10 a.m. Casual attire, flowers omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Ben Tangalin
Ben Buenaventura Tangalin of Kapaa died peacefully at Garden Isle Health Care on Dec. 23, 2011, at the age of 87. He was born in Kapaa on Oct. 13, 1924, and retired as a Landscape Architect.
He is survived by his children, Fred (Carol) Tangalin, Leonard Tangalin, Leroy Tangalin, Gloria Reed, Yolanda (Scott) Kurihara, Nena (Bill) Johnson; brother, Johnny Tangalin; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his Small Town Coffee family.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7, beginning at 3 p.m. at the Small Town Coffee in Kapa‘a in the Kaua‘i Products Fair.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Tangalin family with arrangements.
Marlene Helela
Marlene “Winkie” Helela of Wailua Homesteads died on Dec. 25, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 76. She was born on Dec. 8, 1935, in Honolulu. She was the middle child of Elizabeth and Charles Bernard (deceased). She was a truly devoted wife, loving mother and an abiding friend.
She was preceded in death by an older sister, Ramona and younger brother, Charles Jr.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, David of Wailua; her children, Keith of Omao, Kauai; Kimberly of San Antonio, Texas and Steven (Malia) of Honolulu; grandsons, Kristopher Kele Antonio; Noa Hanaloa Helela; Waiea Imiolahooilohookui Helela; Kaiehu Mohalamauliolahalawai Helela; granddaughter, Ilana Maluehoe Helela and beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services to celebrate her life will be held at Saint Catherine’s Catholic Church in Kapaa on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, visitation at 10 a.m. and mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m.
Myrtle Hine
Myrtle N.N. Cup Choy Hine died peacefully on Dec. 6, 2011, at her home in Wenatchee, Wash., at the age of 78. She was born on Feb. 8, 1933, in Makawao, Maui.
She is survived by her husband, Donald A. Hine of Washington; son, Brian (Linh) Lee of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Cheryl (Lee) Kenneth Kubota of Kapa‘a and Lenore “Lia” (Curtis) Lau of Kaneohe; step-daughter, Pamela (Lenny) Lamb; step-sons, Greg (Mary) Hine and Ronald (Bea) Hine, both of Washington State; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brother, Edward Cup Choy; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, Dec. 29, at Kailua Christian Church, 317 Manono St., Kailua, O‘ahu; with visitation from 9:30 a.m. and service to follow at 10:30 a.m. Scattering of her ashes will take place at Anini Beach at a later date.
Sueko Tamashiro
Sueko “Sue” Tamashiro of Wailua Houselots died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 18, 2011, at the age of 85. She was born in Moloaa, Kauai on Jan. 24, 1926, and retired as the proprietor of Ilima Florist.
She was preceded in death by her son, Lloyd and granddaughter, Laura Gerum.
She is survived by her husband, Chokichi; sons, Wayne (Ruby), Randall (Donna), Warren (Arceli); daughter-in-law, Judy; sister, Bessie (Yoshio) Awakuni; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services were held. Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Tamashiro family with arrangements.
Grace Belliveau
Grace Belliveau of Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec.19, 2011, at the age of 95. She was born on Dec. 13, 1916 in Medford, Mass. She was a retired Secretary for Tewksbury school in Massachusetts.
Preceded in death by husband, Albert Belliveau
She is survived by sons, Albert Belliveau, Jr. of Kapa‘a and John Belliveau of Kapa‘a; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Saint Catherine’s Catholic Church, Kapa‘a. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment private at Punchbowl Veterans Cemetery, Honolulu, at a later date.
