LIHU‘E — Hanalei Elementary School finished with five winners in the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative Calendar of Student Art contest. Its winners were announced Thursday night at a reception for the art contest finalists and their parents at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall.
Griffin Lord, an 11th-grade student at Island School, was the grand prize winner. Lord has previously placed in earlier contests. Her winning entry will grace the November page of the 2012 calendar.
She was joined by Island School freshman Autumn Warnock, who barely had enough time to accept her award before rushing off to play Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation basketball against Kapa‘a High School. Warnock’s art will be on the September page of the calendar.
Tigerlilly Zietz, a sixth-grader, was the Hanalei School entry whose art will grace the June page. Tiana Simpson, Ela Perozo, Savannah Wease and Hunter Hoaglin got Honorable Mention awards.
The art of Sol Fisher, a kindergarten student, will be on the cover for Kaua‘i Christian Academy and 10th-grade student Sarah Britt of the Hawai‘i Technology Academy will have art on the October page.
Circles of Light/Kanuikapono earned two pages: Natalie Lett, a first-grade student, got the February page and Anakin ZingRay, a third-grade student, got the March page.
Natalie Lett, a first-grade student at Kalaheo Elementary School, will get the January page with fourth-grade student Miya Reese getting Honorable Mention.
The art of Kylie Sugahara, a private instruction student in Kekaha, will be on the April page and Jaeda Vega, a fifth-grade student at Kapa‘a Elementary School, will be featured on the May page. Fourth-grade student Jacob Kamibayashi and second-grade students Chambrie Keale and Kalia Kaneakua earned Honorable Mentions.
Arbaaz Ali, a seventh-grade student at Kapa‘a Middle School, will get the July page while Athena Tangelder, an eighth-grade student, will have the August page. Kai Locey, an eighth-grader, got Honorable Mention.
Reanna Javinar, a 12th-grade student at Kaua‘i High School, will be featured on the December page. Javinar also copped an Honorable Mention along with Estee Vasquez, another 12th-grade student.
Kimberly Corpuz, an 11th-grade student, and Megan Scholl, a 10th-grader, from Kapa‘a High School were presented Honorable Mention awards along with Cambria Morgan, a first-grade student from Kekaha Elementary School.
Samantha Paik, a fifth-grade student at Kilauea Elementary School, and Emily Binder, a fourth-grade student, were awarded Honorable Mentions.
All student awardees were presented copies of the 2012 KIUC Calendar of Student Art which will be available shortly from KIUC.
