Katsuko Oshiro
Katsuko “Kay” Oshiro of Kalaheo died on Dec. 5, 2011 at the age of 83.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shigeo Oshiro, brother, Yuken Oshiro and sister, Chiyomi Kamida.
She is survived by daughters, Trish (Stanwood) Kanna and Terri (Randy) Matsuoka; sons, Sanford Oshiro and Mason (Jean) Oshiro; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Mitsuo (Darlene) Oshiro; sisters, Ayako Hunt, Shigeko Eguchi and Gladys (Seiji) Akasaki
Private services were held.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Oshiro family with arrangements.
Wallace Ida
Wallace “Wally” Y. Ida died on Dec. 1, 2011 at the age of 82. He was born on Kaua‘i on March 4, 1929.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Toshio and Akino Ida.
He is survived by his sister, Matsuko (Itsuo) Uyeda; brother, Herbert Ida and numerous nieces and nephews.
No Koden. Private services were held.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Ida family with arrangements.
Regina O. Ventura
Regina O. Ventura of Kapa‘a died on Dec. 10, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 89. She was born on July 22, 1922, in Kapahi. She worked for the Hawaiian Fruit Packers Cannery and after the cannery closed, she became a cook for the BVM sisters at St. Catherine’s Convent. She was a retired State of Hawai‘i employee at Samuel Mahelona Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mariana Ornellas; sister, Mabel (Clarence) Ebinger; brothers, Albert, Joaquin, John, Joseph and Patrick Ornellas; her beloved husband, Jules Ventura Jr. and her cherished sons, Wayne Maurice; Gregory Jules and Jules John Ventura.
She is survived by her daughters, Paulette Ann Vierra; Kitty Catherine (Vernon) Basuel and Regina Eva Ventura; grandchildren, Veronica Nagahisa; Lenette Vierra; Vernon Basuel II; Brookelynn Basuel; Antony (A.J.) Basuel; Kawika Ventura; Cameron Ventura; Clayton Ventura; Lisa Bowsman; Blaise Ventura; Teresa Surdi and 31 great grandchildren; daughter-in-laws, Irene (Wayne) Ventura and Linda (Gregory) Ventura; sisters, Mary Ornellas; Theresa (Jacob) Martins; Pauline (John) Fernandes; sister, Catherine Ornellas BVM; Julia “Julie” (Stanley) Souza and Eva Ornellas.
Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa‘a. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. with mass to follow at 11 a.m.
Ronald Chen
Ronald James Chen of Kalaheo died on Dec. 10, 2011, at Garden Island Healthcare at the age of 70. He was born on June 16, 1941, in Lowell, Mass. He was a retired manager of communications for NASA.
He loved his family and took great joy in their dog Selah. He was an avid guitar player with the Kalaheo ‘Ukulele Senior Ohana and also played violin with the KCC orchestra. He spent his extra time in service to his community, coaching tennis at Waimea High School and driving for the American Cancer Society. He served his country in the Vietnam War. During his 40-year career with NASA, he worked in Koke‘e and at the Johnson Space Center, where he received one of the most prestigious awards given by NASA.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Goon Chen and mother, Ruth (Chin) Chen.
He is survived by his wife, Annette “Dang” Chen; his daughter, Ronny (Benji) Klindt; son, Curtis (Kate) Chen; sister, Judy (Jimmy) Maryou; brother, Wayne (Randi) Chen; 4 grandchildren, Nainoa and Brandon Klindt; Kainoa and Malia Chen; many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Jimmy and Johnny Dang and sister-in-law, Phyllis (Eddie) Ching.
Services will be held on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at Kaua‘i Christian Fellowship at 2731 Ala Kinoiki Rd., Koloa (Koloa bypass road). Visitation time is 1 to 2 p.m. with services to follow. Aloha attire is suggested. A private burial will be held.

Diane Agee
Diane Jean Agee of Kalaheo passed away on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 66. Born in California, she was a retired school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Theresa Wells.
She is survived by husband, James Agee of California; daughter, Vindi (Grant) Wells of Kilauea; son, Heath (Julia) Agee of California; brother, Richard (Elaine) Wells of California and three grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be private.

Myrtle Hine
Myrtle N.N. Cup Choy Hine died peacefully on Dec. 6, 2011 at her home in Wenatchee, Wash. at the age of 78. She was born on Feb. 8, 1933 in Makawao, Maui.
She is survived by her husband, Donald A. Hine of Washington; son, Brian (Linh) Lee of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Cheryl (Lee) Kenneth Kubota of Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i and Lenore “Lia” (Curtis) Lau of Kaneohe, O‘ahu; step-daughter, Pamela (Lenny) Lamb; step-sons, Greg (Mary) Hine and Ronald (Bea) Hine all of Washington State; 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Edward Cup Choy and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at Kailua Christian Church, 317 Manono Street, Kailua, O‘ahu; with visitation from 9:30 a.m. and service to follow at 10:30 a.m. Scattering of her ashes will take place at Anini Beach at a later date.

Shendon Lee Makaio Ikaika Chandler Taniguchi of Waimea, Kaua‘i passed away on Dec. 2, 2011 at the age of 21. He was born in Honolulu, O‘ahu on Dec. 13, 1989.
Graveside service to be held on Dec. 19, 2011 at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery, service at 10 a.m. Burial immediately following service. Aloha attire is suggested.

Clarita Capalong Cacal of Hanapepe died peacefully at home on Dec. 14, 2011. She was born in Tondo, Manila, Philippines. She was a retired heavy equipment operator with Kekaha Sugar Plantation,
She is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Capulong and Consalacion Serrano and brother, Adriano Capalung.
She is survived by sons, Roland (Elisa) Cacal of Hanapepe; Isidro “Sonny” (Tammy Lynn) Cacal of Lihu‘e, Robert (Charlene) Cacal of Hanapepe, Richard Cacal (Chuck Danilowski) of Kona; daughters Vivian Cacal Perry of Hanapepe, Joann (Wesley) Ikeda of Po‘ipu; Glorayin “Glory” (Duane) Cacal Carveiro of Kalaheo; daughter-in-law, Michele Cacal of Hanamaulu; granddaughters/caregivers, Gezmynn (Levi) Viguelia of Hanapepe and Genesse Cacal Ignacio of Kalaheo; brothers, Manuel Capulong, Jr. and Carlito Galpo; sisters, Juanita Galpo and Reana Galpo all of the Philippines; 25 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
