LIHU‘E — Kellie Pleas has been named the new general manager of the Puakea Golf Course.
Pleas, in the Tuesday announcement by Billy Casper Golf, returns to the golf course she opened as director of golf in 1997.
“We’re excited to welcome Kellie back to Billy Casper Golf and Puakea,” said Ed Kageyama, Hawai‘i regional manager for BCG, in a release. “Her blend of experience and deep knowledge of the Kaua‘i golf market will ensure the Puakea team delivers memorable guest experiences time and again.”
Pleas lost little time in rolling up her sleeves, noting the maintenance people are already working to give the buildings on the course a new coat of paint and some of the overgrowth already being trimmed.
As general manager, Pleas will direct Puakea’s day-to-day operations, including staffing and training, clubhouse food and beverage, golf course maintenance, programs and special events, and golf instruction.
“The golf course, with its unmatched natural splendor and fantastic layout, is a must-play for golfers living on Kaua‘i or visiting our island,” Pleas said, welcoming golfers from the Kaua‘i High School golf team who had checked in for a practice round in anticipation of the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation season. “I’m energized to return and bring my friendly, customer-centric philosophy into an already strong operation.”
During her initial tenure at the Puakea Golf Course, the course earned several awards from BCG, including the Outstanding Service Award, Top Performer of the Year and ACE The Guest Experience.
Prior to arriving at Puakea in 1997, she served as Director of Golf at Makaha Golf Course, Assistant Golf Professional at the Kaua‘i Lagoons and was the girls’ Golf Coach at Kaua‘i High School.
The Puakea Golf Course, situated at the base of Mount Haupu, is annually included among Hawai‘i’s best courses in Golfweek’s “Best You Can Play — State by State” rankings.
It plays par-72, 6,964 yards through deep ravines, crosses mountain-fed streams, and reveals sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, treating golfers to stunning island beauty.
The University of Hawai‘i sponsored Collegiate Invitational where Kaua‘i native T.J. Kua carded a career-best 14-under par 202 over the three-day tournament, earning him Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Month honors for October, 2011 was held at Puakea.
Billy Casper Golf, holder of the second largest domestic portfolio, is respected as a high-performance owner-operator of more than 130 golf courses, country clubs and resorts.
