Residents of Hanama‘ulu are asked to consider entering the Hanama‘ulu Community Association’s residential holiday light contest, said Eddie Sarita.
Applications are available from Sarita and every home in Hanama‘ulu is eligible to enter. The exception is that officers of the HCA are not eligible to win, but can enter for display.
Several years ago, the HCA hosted holiday light “friendly” competition among the residents and when it was discontinued, there was a cry from the community to have it resumed. This contest answers that call.
Homes can be entered into one of two categories — Best Theme Display and Most Spectacular “Wow Factor” — and the category must be specified on the application along with a theme title.
Judging will take place on Dec. 15 between the hours of 6:30 and 9 p.m. and participating homes must be illuminated for the judging during that period.
Prizes of $100 for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third place in each of the categories will be awarded following the judging.
Deadline for submitting applications is Dec. 9 and must be mailed to the Hanama‘ulu Community Association, Attn: Holiday Light Contest Committee, P.O.Box 206, Hanama‘ulu, HI 96715.
The contest is being sponsored by the HCA and the County of Kaua‘i’s Waele A Ola Hou Program.
