LIHU‘E — The driver of a large pickup truck pulling a 27-foot trailer lost control of his vehicle while traveling northbound along Kuhio Highway between Kealia and Anahola on Sunday at approximately 6:30 p.m., county officials said in a news release Wednesday.
The crash caused a partial closure of the highway for several hours.
The truck and trailer ran off the road near mile marker 11.9 and hit a dirt embankment, causing the trailer, which was loaded with a grass cutting tractor, to flip on its side, a county news release states.
The trailer blocked the northbound lane and a portion of the southbound lane for several hours. Police officers on the scene directed the traffic alternately with one-lane open until the highway was cleared, the release states.
There were no injuries reported but the truck and the tractor were damaged.
The driver of the truck was cited at the scene for having an unlicensed trailer, the release states.
