KAPA‘A — The Kapolei High School Hurricanes’ girls basketball team finished its Kaua‘i tour, 2-0, following its 45-27 win over Maui High School Sabers on Friday at the Bernice Hundley Gym in Kapa‘a.
The Hurricanes opened its series by downing the host Kapa‘a girls, Thursday night, and continued its domination of the floor with the win over Maui, Friday.
Paige Kaea had the hot hand for Kapolei, netting a game-high 14 points, Friday. Toe Motu finished with six points; Charmayne Yago and Kaitlynn Lanier each netted five marks in the win.
Desiree Vega and Bernice Ching each finished with four with Diamond Carter and Malia Folaumahuna adding pairs for the win.
Jordyn Vega topped the Maui shooting with 11 points in the effort and continued that showing Saturday when the Sabers downed the host Warriors, 59-45 to finish its series, 2-1, its sole loss coming at the hands of the Hurricanes.
Vega finished her Saturday outing with 11 points against Kapa‘a.
Christina Lolulelei, held to just two points against Kapolei, soared to a 12-point production, Saturday in Maui’s win over Kapa‘a.
Similarly, Trina Valencia, held to just four points against Kapolei, blossomed for nine marks against Kapa‘a and Jamia Degala, held to just a digit against Kapolei, lit the net with eight points against the Warrior wahine.
Tatiana Takara finished with seven points against Kapa‘a, Ahlaynee Milliet added six points and Megan Malubay rounded out the Maui win with a pair.
Reggie McCabe, solid against Kapolei and Maui, Thursday night, came back with a game-high 15 points to lead the Kapa‘a effort, Saturday.
She was assisted by Raquelle Matayoshi, solid in the paint, adding six points along with Ka‘anoe Marshall and Katalina Fifita. Krystal Christian added five, Ethalyn Calvin added three and Nahea Quereto rounded out the effort on a pair.
Kapa‘a finished the three-day tournament 0-3.
