Kaua‘i residents Rick and Susan Dierker recently released a children’s book, “Knuckles the Hound of Hanalei,” according to a press release.
The story is about a dog who finds a home on the North Shore of Kaua‘i, and its adventures near the ocean, in a stream and his backyard.
The 38-page hardcover book is illustrated by Melinda Sandler. The book offers an introduction to Hawaiian language, plus a glossary and pronunciation guide, according to the release.
“This is a good story for children facing relocation, adoption, or a change in family status that is undergoing a difficult situation,” the release states. “The book details the story of a dog that is separated from his family and is scared. He goes to live with a new family, and learns to enjoy his new environment and culture.”
The authors donated books to Toys for Tots on O‘ahu, Kapi‘olani Children’s Hospital, Kaua‘i Rescue Reserve Ranch and the Kaua‘i Humane Society, according to the release.
The books are available at www.EverybodyKnowsKnuckles.com and stores around the island. Learn more about Knuckles Dierker on Facebook or on the website.
