HANAPEPE — Caleb Ephan pushed through for a three-yard score in the fourth quarter to break a 0-0 deadlock and give the Kekaha Titans Junior Midgets a 6-0 edge over the Lihu‘e Patriots, Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium.
This was one of five games that wrapped up the regular Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League season.
The Kekaha Titans finished the day splitting its series with Lihu‘e as Malu Ralson scored three touchdowns and had an extra point to lead the Patriots Mitey Mites to a 27-8 win over Kekaha.
Ralson opened the books with a one-yard score only to be answered when the Titan’s quarterback Koedy Albina found paydirt following a 35-yard scamper. Bryson Kapahu did the point-after kick to give the Titans an 8-6 margin following the first quarter of play.
Taylor Apilado found the end zone on a one-yard charge in the third quarter with Keane Tibon doing the point-after honors to give Lihu‘e a 13-8 lead.
Ralston upped that margin with another one-yard score in the third quarter, Doza Kaleiohi doing the point-after honors.
In the final period, Ralston broke out for a 45-yard score and did the point-after honors for the 27-8 final.
Kahale Kaleiohi broke open a 0-0 defensive slugfest between the Kapa‘a Eagles and the Hanapepe Colts to give the Eagles Mitey Mites a 6-0 win after Kaleiohi found the end zone on a 25-yard scamper.
Lacin Montemayor and Avery Miguel scored in the second period to lead the Hanapepe Colts Junior Pee Wee to a 14-0 win over the Kapa‘a Eagles to clinch the KPWFL JPW title.
Montemayor, the Colts’ signal caller, found paydirt on a one-yard keeper, Noah Bermudez doing the point-after honors for the 7-0 lead.
Miguel added the second touchdown on a 55-yard kickoff return, Bermudez adding his second successful point-after for the 14-0 final.
The Colts continued its winning ways when Reymund Mendoza found the end zone twice in the first quarter to lead the Hanapepe Junior Midgets to a 16-6 edge over the Kapa‘a Eagles JM.
Mendoza opened the scorebooks on a four-yard touchdown, Justin Fune doing the point-after boot to give the Colts an 8-0 lead.
But the Eagles answered that score when Braxton Garcia found Leslee Aki on a 44-yard pass, the point-after coming up short to give the Colts an 8-6 bulge.
Mendoza insured the win on a 25-yard score, still in the first quarter, with Fune gracing the TD with his second point-after boot for the 16-6 final.
Despite the win, the Kapa‘a Eagles JM, coached by Dustin Alfiler, finished the season as the Junior Midget champions.
Sherri Agosto, the KPWFL president, said the championship trophies for the JPW and Junior Midgets will be presented during the annual Shriner’s game, Saturday at Vidinha Stadium.
