LIHU‘E — A Kapa‘a man has accepted a plea deal on drugs and weapons charges.
Steven Charles Henriques Jr., 38, appeared before 5th Circuit Judge Randal Valenciano Tuesday to plead no contest on three cases.
County Deputy Prosecutor Melinda Mendes read the indictment that followed a May 17, 2010 arrest for second-degree reckless endangerment, ownership or possession of any firearm, place to keep pistol or revolver, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug, and drug paraphernalia.
Mendes said that Henriques has a prior felony conviction and was in violation of his probation when he discharged a 32-caliber pistol, injuring himself in the process.
She said Henriques was also on a public road with the weapon, and was also in possession of methamphetamines and marijuana.
Deputy Public Defender John Calma represented Henriques.
Valenciano noted that the felony charges have a possible 60-year extended term of imprisonment. The plea deal requests at least 18 months in jail for Henriques.
Henriques also pleaded no contest to two criminal contempt of court charges. The misdemeanors carry a maximum one-year imprisonment and a $2,000 fine.
The sentencing date is set for Feb. 9.
