LIHU‘E — The Department of Land and Natural Resources announced Tuesday that the Kaua‘i District Office of the Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation has completed its relocation to Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor at 2494 Niumalu Road, Lihu‘e, HI 96766. The Kaua‘i District Office was formerly located in the Kukui Grove Executive Center.
The planning and physical relocation of the district office, its staff and all of its functions took a total of 18 months to carry out at a total cost of $300,000. Funding was secured by the state Legislature with the assistance of Kaua‘i Rep. James Tokioka, a DLNR news release states.
Phone service to the new facility was finalized Nov. 3, and all services that were offered at the District Office’s previous location have now been restored.
The new Kaua‘i District Office may be reached at (808) 241-3111, or via fax at (808)241-3117.
Harbor Agents for two of the Kaua‘i harbor facilities are also housed in the new Kaua‘i District Office and have been assigned different phone numbers. For the Hanalei Harbor Agent, call (808) 241-3114. For the Nawiliwili Harbor Agent call (808) 241-3115 for the Nawiliwili Harbor Agent. The contact number for the Port Allen Harbor Agent, (808) 335-5361, remains unchanged.
The relocation of the district office to the Nawiliwili small boat harbor is another example of fulfilling Governor Abercrombie’s New Day plan of restoring government services by bringing those services to the boaters at the harbor, the release states.
DOBOR operates and manages recreational harbors, boat ramps, and piers across the state. The division works in close partnership with DLNR’s Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement and the U.S. Coast Guard to make nearshore waters safe.
The division is also responsible for registering all vessels in Hawai‘i which are not documented by the U.S. Coast Guard and for regulating and permitting surf meets, canoe and yachting regattas, ocean swimming events and other ocean events with the concurrence of the U.S. Coast Guard.
