LIHU‘E — Kahi Davis netted two goals to lead F.C. Northshore to a 5-2 win over Koloa for the division title at the Will Veeck Inter-regional soccer tournament, Nov. 5 at the North Vidinha fields.
The win gives F.C. Northshore a perfect 11-0 season said Joe Marvin, a team parent, following the tournament.
Adding to the F.C. Northshore scoring which was played under challenging weather conditions of thunder, lightning and rain, Natalie Devin, Vanessa Hernandez and Jordan Grainger each netted goals in the win.
Briana Griep, strong for Koloa during the American Youth Soccer Organization, Region 940 playoffs, netted both Koloa goals.
The South Side Seahawks overcame the inclement weather to net two goals in its 2-1 win over the North Shore Angry Birds to claim the Boys 12 Under division title.
“The weather was not favorable,” said Adeline Sears, the Seahawks Team Mom, in an email. “The game was actually stopped in the second quarter due to thunder and lightning. Overall, the game was a muddy battle between the Seahawks and the Angry Birds with the game ending in a close 2-1 score in favor of the Seahawks.”
Kameron Parbo and Ryan Yavinsky did the scoring honors for the victorious South Side boys while Josh Pereira found the net for the Angry Birds.
Sears said the South Side boys practiced hard all season and played every game with heart, their parents being very proud of each and every one of the players.
Similarly, Tinina Olores, team mom for Kalaloa, an Under 12 Girls team from AYSO Region 940, had the same sense of pride for her girls who took a 4-3 edge over the Thrillers coached by Donna Palmer.
William Trugillo, commissioner for AYSO Region 940 said Kalaloa was trailing for three quarters, getting the final edge in the last quarter.
“At the end of the first quarter, the Thrillers had a 3-0 lead,” Trugillo said. “It was 3-1 at the half and 3-2 in favor of the Thrillers at the end of the third quarter. It was a really good game.”
The close play epitomized the playoffs leading to the finals when shootouts were the norm, settling who was going to advance to the finals.
“This is a very exciting event for our girls,” Olores said in an email prior to the start of the Region 940 playoffs.
“The Kalaloa team is a collaboration of Kalaheo and Koloa 10 and 11 year olds. Registration was low in both towns so Kalaheo took its seven girls and Koloa took its seven girls to form ‘Kalaloa Girls.’”
Olores said the team, coached by Kurt Viluan, had just one loss during the regular season.
“It’s been awhile since the West division held this title in this category so I know many of our supporters are just as excited as we are,” Olores said. “These are my awesome Kalaloa Girls and they had an amazing season and they are such sweet girls.”
Team members include Danika Viluan, Shezlyn Labutong, Naia Manintin, Mahina Olores, Mina Thain, Bianca Colagreco, Cambria Ort, Mackenzie Hubbard, Jessica Turley, Marlie Allen, Renee Navarro, Halia Hibbitt and Kaila Matsunaga.
The Eastside Thrillers, coached by Donna Palmer and Mike Buratti, include Bernadette Lindsey, Aretha Matsushima, Jessica Palmer, April Barnes, Raven Ochoa, Nevaeh Arruda-Kapu, Jacqueline Bieber, Tiallah Mortell, Emma Buratti, Grace Yatsko, Sophia Sherrer and Mikela Griffin.
